(BEIJING, April 14) -- Each station of line 5 of the Beijing subway has its own architectural and decorative style, Xinhua reports.

Playing off the similar grey walls, each of the line's 23 stations uses unique design features, such as columns, corridors, and staircases, to create a distinct atmosphere.

The new trains are also different from other subway trains in Beijing, in part due to their stainless steel bodies, more spacious cabins, and added air conditioning systems. Handrails and chairs provide practicality and comfort to all passengers, including those in wheelchairs or with a disability. In addition, LCD monitors provide arrival information and broadcast live video. Commuters will be able to watch the Olympic Games when they ride the subway line this summer.

Groundbreaking for the new line took place December 2002 and the line officially began operations in October 2007.
