(BEIJING, February 13) -- The week-long Spring Festival proved to be a prime time to keep business robust.
According to data released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, 133 enterprises and 2901 shops sampled by the bureau during Spring Festival raked in 3.33 billion yuan, a 19.4 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
Shopping malls saw a 23.4 percent growth; supermarkets up 21%; catering business lept 13.2 percent; franchised stores rose 12.4 percent.
Necessities of life enjoyed a stable growth. Prices of pork were relatively stable. The wholesale prices of beef saw a marginal growth of 2.4 percent; the wholesale prices of mutton went up 5.5 percent; in the retail market, prices of fresh beef were up 4.1 percent while fresh mutton was up 2.9 percent.
Catering business enjoyed a brisk growth. Among 37 sampled catering companies, 11 saw a 20 percent growth.
