(BEIJING, Jan. 3) -- As a co-host city of the Olympics, the year 2008 has great meaning to Qingdao. According to the Sailing Committee of the Beijing Olympic Games (Qingdao), Qingdao is well prepared for the Olympic sailing events.
As a co-host city of the Olympics, Qingdao used to face many challenges such as lack of technical support and experience about the international sailing events.
"During the last five years, with the efforts of all Qingdao citizens, the Sailing Committee of the Beijing Olympic Games (Qingdao) has gained a lot of experience through the two pre-games events and conquered challenges," said Qingdao Mayor Xia Geng.
Furthermore, Qingdao realized many firsts during the preparation work for the Olympics:
- The 2007 International Regatta was the first international sailing event held in Qingdao.
- The 2007 International Regatta was the first pre-games event for the 2008 Olympics.
- The first spectator stands for sailing events were set up in the 2007 International Regatta.
- Chinese Tiantai Yingling team is the first and the only Yingling team in China.
- The first marine rostrum will be set up for the 2008 Olympic sailing events.
