Community food markets in Beijing will provide standard balances to regulate local residents' main food sources. The Beijing News reports that a draft proposing standard balances and strict management in community food markets was released on Monday by the Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision. Under the proposal, market owners would provide standardized balances for every stall. Stall keepers would not be allowed to bring additional measuring tools into the markets. A memo outlining the rights and responsibilities of managers and vendors, as well as how to deal with customer complaints, would also be displayed in the markets. The standard balances would be painted orange or dark blue, making them easily distinguishable from private measuring tools.
