(BEIJING, March 3) -- China's former NBA player Wang Zhizhi is set to sit out on the sidelines for three months if he has an operation on his leg suffering from bone spurs, his American doctor announced.

Dr. Arthur Ting said that bone spurs were found in Wang's thigh and will have a great impact on Wang's body and form.

"If he has an operation, he will need a period of rest."

Wang's operation will be scheduled for mid March, sidelining him for almost three months, Ting continued.

Dr. Ting is highly regarded as a top orthopedic surgeon and his patients have included such athletes as Barry Bonds, Tiger Woods, Joe Montana and Yao Ming.

He is also deemed an old friend of the Chinese basketball team. Players such as Sui Feifei, Gong Songlin and Li Nan have also gone under his knife.
