(BEIJING, March 4) -- According to FIBA (International Basketball Federation), the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) has become the fourth candidate interested in hosting the 2014 FIBA World Championship.

FIBA opened up the bidding process for the 17th edition of the World Championship on January 10, after decisions were made during its last Central Board meeting held on the 9th of December in Chicago.

FIBA is very pleased to welcome Russia to the list of three other countries who have already expressed interest in hosting the event thus far: Spain, France, and Denmark. The closing date for the sending of Letters of Intent is April 30.

The FIBA World Championship is held every four years. In 2010, the FIBA World Championship for men will be played in Turkey, and the FIBA World Championship for women will be hosted by the Czech Republic.
