(BEIJING, March 20) -- The Beijing football team Guoan secured a 4-2 home victory over underdog Krung Thai Bank of Thailand. The latter team was demolished 1-9 by Japan's Kashima Antlers in the opener, of the AFC Asian Champions League on Wednesday.

Guoan forward Du Wenhui scored twice, once in the 39th minute and another in the 72nd minute while midfielder Walter Julian Martinez added another two, helping the home team place second in Group F. In first place is Japan's Kashima Antlers, who took a 6-0 win over Vietnam's Nam Dinh.

The Thai team showed its tenacity during the match by hitting back in the 58th minute with a goal from Thaensopa Nantawat, and the visitors leveled up the game at 2 all just five minutes later, thanks to Pichitchotirat Peeraphong, but were unable to keep scoring against the Beijing team..

Despite the win, Beijing Guoan coach Lee Jang-soo admitted he was unhappy that his side initially threw away a two-goal advantage. "I felt nervous when they scored their second goal."

"It was a big problem and we have learned a hard lesson," the Korean said.
