(Beijing February. 29) -- The "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Taekwondo International Invitational Tournament entered its last day at the University of Science and Technology Beijing Gymnasium on Friday, with eight female and eight male taekwondists qualifying for the women's +67kg and men's +80kg quarterfinals scheduled for the afternoon. In the women's +67kg preliminaries, Noha Safwat (EGY) defeated Liu Minghua (CHN) 3-2; Carmen Marton (AUS) trounced Natalia Silva of (BRA) 3-0; Daniela Castrignano of (ITA) edged Sonia Reyes Saez of (ESP) 5-4; and Khaoula Ben Hamza of (TUN) beat Aura Paez of (VEN) 5-2. In the same category, Yang Ping (CHN) whitewashed her teammate Fei Lulu 5-0; Liu Wenyuan (CHN) overscored Guadalupe Ruiz (MEX) 4-2; Zong Mengmeng (CHN) thrashed Nadin Dawani of (JOR) 6-1; Han Yingying (CHN) earned a narrow victory over Che Chew Chan of (MAS) 5-4. In the men's +80Kg preliminaries, French star Pascal Gentil edged Cha Dong Min of Korea 3-2 in a cliffhanger; Liu Xiaobo of China defeated his teammate Yang Rui narrowly 2-1; Mikel Bernal Fernandez of Spain outmatched Samir Aknouche of Sweden 3-1; and Dong Wansheng of China registered a 2-1 win over his teammate Zhao Peizhe. In the same category competition, Yang Fuchao of China downed teammate Wang Lin 2-0; Yin Zhimeng of China cruised to an easy 5-1 victory over his teammate Hao Renbo. Moreover, China's Zheng Yi advanced directly to the last eight by a withdrawal from Morocco's Abdelkader Zrouri, while Nigeria's Armstrong Omoregie of Nigeria made it to the last eight as a bye.
