Qi Hui tops women's 200m individual medley

  (BEIJING, Feb. 4) -- On February 4, the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Swimming China Open entered its fifth day. Chinese veteran Qi Hui carried away the gold in the women's 200m individual medley final, with a time of 2:14.14, and made the Olympic Qualification time cut.

  During the competition held on Sunday evening, Qi Hui didn't show all of her strength. Regarding this, Qi Hui explained that she was saving energy for the final on Monday.

  In the final, Qi Hui didn't gain an advantage while taking to the water. But she sped up in the breaststroke leg and surpassed German swimmer Annika Mehlhorn to touch the wall first, with a time of 2:14.14.

  Choi Hye Ra from Korea stood second at 2.57 behind Qi Hui. German swimmer Annika Mehlhorn won the bronze medal. The world record in the women's 200m individual relay is 2:09.72, set by Chinese swimmer Wu Yanyan.
