VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb 3, 2008 - Top seed and and local favourite Fernando Gonzalez captured his third Vina del Mar title when Juan Monaco of Argentina was forced to withdraw from the final with an ankle injury. Gonzalez also won the claycourt title here in 2002 and 2004 and was runner-up in 2005. "I'm happy to have won this tournament once again but a little sad for Juan who wasn't able to play the final," said Gonzalez, who now has nine career ATP titles. "It's tough for him not be able to play the final and probably miss Davis Cup next week." Gonzalez had reached the final by beating Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (8/6), 6-2 while Monaco, who suffered his injury playing in the doubles final, advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Spain's Santiago Ventura.
