BRUSSELS, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Denmark and England will fight for men's title of the European Badminton Teams Championships being held in Dutch central city Almere after beating Germany and Poland respectively on Saturday.
Denmark, led by world No. 5 Kenneth Jonassen and No. 8 Peter Gade, conquered Germany 3-1, while England whitewashed Poland 3-0.
The final and the match for third place between the two losing semifinalists will take place on Sunday.
Jonassen opened the account for Denmark with a solid 21-12, 21-8 victory over Germany's Bjoern Joppien. But the German No. 1 doubles pair of Roman Spitko and Michael Fuchs easily defeated Denmark's world-class opponents, Martin Lundgaard and Jens Eriksen, in straight games.
Denmark regained lead after Gade scored a hard-fought three-game victory over Marc Zwiebler in the second singles rubber.
Mathias Boe and Joachim Fischer sealed victory for the title favorites, outlasting Kristof Hopp and Johannes Schoettler in three games.
England completely dominated the match against Poland. No. 1 singles player Andrew Smith, No. 2 Rajiv Ouseph, and doubles No. 1pair Nathan Robertson David Lindley all notched up lopsided victories.
The Almere tournament kicked off on Tuesday. It also serves as a European qualifying event for the World teams championships. The top three teams in both the women's and men's competition will go to the final stages of the world championships scheduled for May in Jakarta, Indonesia.
