Chinese team tops women's 4Г—100m medley relay

(BEIJING, Feb. 4) -- On Monday morning, the finals of six events of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Swimming China Open were staged at the National Aquatics Center, with Hungary and China taking two titles each, while Sweden and Germany each had one title.

In the men's 50m freestyle final, staged first, Stefan Nystrand from Sweden finished first with a time of 22.39, 0.03 ahead of his compatriot.

Brazilian Nicholas Dias Dos Santos won the bronze medal.

In the women's 200m individual medley, Chinese Qi Hui won her second gold, clocking 2:14.14, and fulfilled the task of making three Olympic Qualification time cuts. Korean Choi Hye Ra stood second, 2.57 behind Qi. German swimmer Annika Mehlhorn won the bronze.

In the men's 200m individual medley, Hungarian Laszio Cseh won the gold medal with a time of 2:00.13. Japanese Sano Hidemasa stood second, with a 2.23 lag. The bronze medal was obtained by Fabio Carvalho of Hungary.

The competition in women's 200m backstroke was fierce. Finally, Nikolett Szepesi from Hungary touched the wall first with a time of 2:13.33. Chinese Chen Yanyan finished 0.52 behind and stood second. German veteran Antje Buschschulte ranked third.

In the men's 100m backstroke, German Helge Meeuw topped the competition in a time of 55.07. With a 0.36 lag, Korean Sung Min stood second. Chinese Shi Feng, who won the first gold of the 2008 Swimming China Open, obtained a bronze medal.

In the women's 4Г—100m medley relay, the Chinese team, consisting Chen Yanyan, Sun Ye, Xu Yanwei, and Zhu Qianwei, carried away the gold with only 0.18 in advantage, clocking 4:07.61. The German team won the silver medal.

Beginning at 6:30 on Monday evening, the heats of the men's 200m butterfly, women's 100m butterfly, men's 200m backstroke, women's 100m backstroke and men's 400m individual medley will be staged.

The "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Swimming China Open will be held at the National Aquatics Center from January 31 to February 5.
