Algeria claim final Olympic spot at African qualifier

(BEIJIING, February 2) -- With only one Olympic vacancy left to allocate on the final day of the 1st AIBA African Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Algiers, Algeria, local hero Newfel Ouatah charged to a 21-6 victory over Mohamed Amanissi (MAR) in the +91kg division on Thursday.

Ouatah's victory brought the number of Algerian Olympic qualifiers to eight and the number of gold medals to four, much to the delight of the strong home country support.

A total of 29 boxers booked an Olympic ticket from this opening African qualifying event, which has proved to be an excellent opening leg to the 2nd AIBA African Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will be held in Windhoek, Namibia from March 22-31.
