(BEIJING, March 9) -- The expansion project of Shanghai Pudong Airport has passed inspection by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, reported the People's Daily.

The newly built No.2 terminal building and the No.3 runway of the airport will open for trial operation within the month.

With an expected annual passenger transfer capacity of 60 million and freight throughput of 4.2 million tons by 2015, the expansion project will accelerate the city's transformation into an international shipping center and better facilitate the city's air services for the Beijing Olympics and 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
