Subway Line 10 gets ready for open in June

(Beijing, February 29) -- After a successful engineering trail run on Thursday, the line 10 of Beijing Subway (including Olympic Branch Line) is expected to officially launch ahead of the Beijing Olympic Game in June, according to Beijing Transportation Commission.

Operating between the eastern Chaoyang District and northern Haidian District of Beijing, the line starts from Wanliu Station in the west to the Jinsong Station in the south. The line runs 24.55km and has 22 stations. The Olympic Branch Line runs from the north at Xiongmaohuandao Station and ends at Olympic Green South Gate. The Olympic line has three underground stations and takes 5.91km.

Founded on Dec. 27, 2003, the Line 10 will connect subway lines of No. 1, 5, 13, Olympic Branch Line and Airport Branch Line when being completed.

In contrast to Line 5, which transcends the old town area, Line 10 passes through many buildings built in the past 20 years, so that the concept of "urban frontier" has become the basic tone of its design concept.

The line's color scheme is black, white and gray and combines old and new in its design - including Chinese traditional elements, like traditional painting, and hi-tech style, like space-capsule shaped walls. As a result, compared with the "warm gray" of Line 5, many stations of the Line 10 were decorated in different colors.

The "Jintaixizhao" Station at the conjunction of Guanghua Road and the East Third Ring Road was designed to look like a space ship. Its round lamp pool and orange dots represent the sun. The journalists noted that an exit of the station leads directly to the brand new building of China's central TV station.

At Huangzhuang Station in Haidian District, orange yellow catches everyone's eyes. "Huangzhuang is located at Zhongguancun, nicknamed the 'Chinese Silicon Valley,' and our design features a combination of science, technology, reason and thought," a designer told the press.
