BOCOG to receive Olympic Flame at Panathenaikon Stadium on March 30

  (ATHENS, March 28) -- Following a weeklong relay in Greece, the Beijing Olympic Flame will reach Panathenaikon Stadium in Athens on March 30, the China News Net has reported. There Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) will hold a ceremony to hand over the Olympic Flame to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.

  The ceremony for the handover of the Olympic Flame is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. (GMT +2) and will last for one hour.

  Panathenaikon Stadium is currently receiving minor updates and being decorated for the event.

  The stadium that stands today was erected in the 17th century on the site of the original stadium built 300 years ago. In 1896, Panathenaikon Stadium served as the venue for the opening ceremony of the first modern Olympic Games. The stadium can accommodate 180,000 spectators.
