BEIJING, Feb. 20 -- Shanghai released Tuesday the official criteria that will be used to choose the city's medal presenters for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. According to Eastday.com, officials denied previous media reports that the competition required strict standards of facial appearance. Women in Shanghai born after July 1, 1983, and before June 30, 1990, can apply to be one of the city's 40 medal presenters if they are students of college or above. Applications will be accepted until March 10. Candidates should also be 1.68 to 1.78 meters tall and must have a "regular appearance with standard proportions," according to the evaluation group of the competition. They should also be able to speak English, have team spirit and a sense of discipline. Previous media reports said the width of a candidate's nose should be a 10th of her face width, and the width of her eyes should be three-tenths the width of her face. Organizers say the competition is not a beauty pageant but an exercise to select young, lively and healthy women who have positive attitudes towards work and life. The 40 "Olympic Misses" will receive posture and etiquette training and appear on local TV before the Games.
