(BEIJING, February 27) -- The issues of common concern on food safety and medical services have been put on the agenda in an effort to ensure the success of the Olympic equestrian events to be hosted in Hong Kong, York YN Chow, Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food of Hong Kong SAR, said.

He met Chen Xiaohong, the Vice-Minister of Health and head of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) Healthcare Leading Group; Dai Jianping, Deputy Director of BOCOG Games Services; and other Ministry of Health officials and updated them on Hong Kong's preparations for the equestrian events.

He said the Hong Kong SAR government is well prepared to provide support services such as public health, medical services and food safety up to Olympic standard.

"With the Olympics less than six months away, I hope the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong can set up an effective communication mechanism and help each other carry out the work in the best way."

Dai Jianping was satisfied with Hong Kong's preparation of the equestrian events.

Mechanisms and contingency measures have also been put in place to deal with public health and medical emergencies during the equestrian events.

Hong Kong has laid out a detailed plan on food safety and prevention of infectious disease. An increasing number of people have been put on duty in case of emergency.
