(BEIJING, February 27) -- Conventionally there are only eight species of flowers in blossom in humid August, but through horticultural efforts, about 20 kinds of ornamental flowers grown in a floricultural environment will "dress up" the Olympic host city, and about 576 species will be expected to be on display this summer, reported the Beijing Evening News. The humidity and heat in August may affect the bloom of a majority of flowers. But through the floriculture of local horticulturists, flowers will "change" their bloom dates and the length of their anthesis, seedtime, the speed of their growth and even the shape of their coronal. Horticultural artifice will also change the shape and the colors of the same ornamental plant to create various kinds of vivid patterns, such as Peking opera mask and dragon boat, to decorate the streets and landscape areas during the Games.
